Due to its tropical location, temperatures in Colombia vary more by altitude than by season, making it possible to enjoy the country's many varied landscapes at any time of year. Even though there isn't much temperature variance across Colombia's seasons, the country's varied topography creates several microclimates and tiny dry and rainy seasons. Do some homework on the climate of your desired destination once you've decided where in Colombia you'd want to travel.
Peak Time
December through February are ideal for seeing Colombia since the weather is dry almost everywhere except the Amazon. Clear, mild days in the Andes provide perfect trekking in the country's collection of exceptional national parks, while the Caribbean shore is at its most beautiful and busiest during this time of year.
Because of the great demand from tourists, costs are skyrocketing right now. Especially along the northern shore, it is crucial to reserve lodging and transportation in advance.
Shoulder Season
Between March and September, temperature and precipitation vary significantly from location to region, so check the forecast before making any plans. While Cartagena enjoys a dry April and mild May, Bogotá, Medellin, and Cali have a second rainy season.
Short tropical rains are possible in the highland cities between July and August, but otherwise, it is another minor dry season. July through October is prime time for whale viewing on the Pacific coast. The Easter celebrations are a sight to see.
Time of Year With Fewer Visitors
Inexpensive water levels in the Amazon make for excellent trekking and animal viewing chances, as well as white sand beaches and fewer insects; costs are low across the country. In contrast, flash floods frequently wash down roads in the Andean area, while October is an abnormally rainy month for Medellin, Cartagena, and the Caribbean coast.
January
The Caribbean shore is beautiful in January. Few people are around near the end of the month, but the celebrations and events continue. Since the humidity is low and the temperature is high, going outside to soak up some rays and go for a swim is a tempting idea. It's best to avoid the first few weeks of January if you plan on visiting Cartagena or Santa Marta.
February
While the weather in the Andean region remains pleasant. February is a great time to visit the Caribbean coast's beaches, despite Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona being typically closed from February 1st to the 15th for park maintenance.
With students and party-goers back at home, life in Colombia has returned to its tranquil state. Since July is one of the drier months in Bogotá, it's a great time to explore the city's abundance of cafes and museums. Cartagena and Santa Marta, two of the country's most visited cities, offer cheap hotel rates and airline tickets at this time of year, making it an ideal time to visit.
March
In Colombia, Easter is a lucrative holiday. It doesn't matter if it happens in March or April; all major cities will be prepared with festivities. However, masses flock to those conducted in the picturesque, colonial-era town of Popayán, where thousands stream out onto the cobblestone streets and plazas to join somber religious processions. Mompox, Pamplona, and Tunja also enjoy spectacular festivals over Holy Week.
April
The height of the tourist season officially ends in April, at the same time as the wet weather makes its presence known across the country.
Traveling to La Guajira, where the heat is always there but not as stifling as it can be during the warmest months of July and August, is a better choice than any other alternatives. Because of the Amazon's high water levels, it might be difficult for travelers to experience the environment and view the local fauna.
May
In the Andes, the start of the monsoon season comes in May. You could get lucky and be able to organize a trip exactly before the weather becomes terrible and the prices decrease, but you should refrain from the bank on that happening. It could rain in Cartagena, but other than that, it will be a tranquil and unusual event. This is the finest time of year to go fishing, and the best spot is Nu and Buenaventura. Nu and Buenaventura are two of the best places to surf in the world.
